Questions parents ask

If yours is not here, call or send a message. Please leave out medical details.

When should my child first see a dentist?

Dental groups recommend a first visit by your child's first birthday, or when the first tooth comes in.

Can I stay with my child?

Yes. You can sit beside the chair or hold a hand. With teens, we ask the teen whether they want a parent in the room.

Do you take my insurance?

We work with many dental plans, and our fees page lists the plan types. We check your child’s plan before the first visit and tell you what we find.

What if we do not have insurance?

You pay at the visit, and you get the fee in writing before treatment. Financing is offered by third-party lenders; approval and terms are set by the lender.

Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?

Yes, for children. The practice confirms its enrollment on the fees page.

Will it hurt?

Most children feel pressure and some tenderness. We numb the area when it is needed, show each tool first and stop when your child raises a hand.

How often does my child need X-rays and a cleaning?

Dr. Chandran decides from your child's mouth and tells you why. Many children come about every six months.

What are sealants and fluoride?

A sealant is a thin coating on the chewing surface of a back tooth. Fluoride is a mineral put on the teeth. She tells you whether your child needs either, and why.

What counts as a dental emergency?

A knocked-out or broken tooth, or a toothache that will not quit. Call us. For trouble breathing or swallowing, call 911.

Do you offer sedation?

We use local numbing only. If your child needs sedation, we refer you to a dentist who is permitted to give it.

Can I get a written estimate before treatment?

Yes. You get one before any treatment, and nothing starts until you say yes.

Do you speak Spanish?

Cinthia Escamilla, our hygienist, speaks Spanish and English.

How do I change or cancel a visit?

Call or text us as early as you can, so we can offer the time to another family.
